GRADUATION UPDATES
Our James Island Charter High School 2026 Commencement Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2025, at the North Charleston Coliseum at 7:00 pm. Graduates must arrive no later than 6:30 pm. Please inform your counselor if you are not participating in the ceremony. Our ceremony usually lasts for an hour and a half or less. We do not require tickets for the ceremony. There is plenty of room. Parking is free.
To ensure a dignified graduation ceremony we have adopted the following guidelines:
1. All debts and obligations, including textbook return must be paid to participate in the graduation ceremony.
2. Cap and gown orders are made directly through Jostens.

3. Appropriate dress is required.
- Dress or a blouse with a dress skirt (Hem may not be visible below the graduation gown), neckline should be completely covered by the graduation gown. Black dress shoes (no athletic footwear or flip flop type shoes). We strictly adhere to these rules. They are not suggestions. Note: Jack Rogers sandals are acceptable as long as they are black or a dark color. If wearing wedges, the top of the shoe should be black.
or
- Dress pants (no denim/jeans or athletic pants; black or dark color required), collared dress shirt with a tie (neck tie/bow tie), black, dark blue, or brown dress shoes with dark socks, loafers or cowboy boots. (No athletic footwear, XTRATUF Boots, Crocs, sandals or flip flops) – NO T-SHIRTS or polo-style pullovers. If wearing khakis, they must be dark blue or black.
c. Sunglasses, headgear, flip-flops, and tennis shoes are not permitted.
d. You are allowed to decorate the top of your cap. Cap decorations must be limited to the flat surface of the cap and 2D. No electric or digital displays are allowed. No derogatory language, symbols, or graphics may be displayed on the cap.
5. Unacceptable behavior during the graduation ceremony or failure to comply with appropriate dress requirements will result in removal from the ceremony.
We request that you review these guidelines. The guidelines represent a contractual agreement regarding appropriate behavior and dress. We look forward to a dignified ceremony that allows graduates and their families to hear names as they are called. To ensure proper decorum, we have asked the Coliseum Staff and the North Charleston Police Department to intervene in excessive demonstrations by our guests such as in the case of noise-making devices, and balloons which are banned. We are sure you understand the nature of our request and will honor it on that day.
We are looking forward to a wonderful ceremony! Any questions or concerns should be directed to Curtis Williams, Graduation Coordinator, at curtis_williams.c@charleston.k12.sc.us.
For any additional questions, please see Mr. Curtis Williams in Room 114 or at curtis_williams.c@charleston.k12.sc.us.
